Dr. Swain's presentation was both enlightening and sobering, highlighting the intricate relationship between climate change and the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires in California. He discussed the pivotal role that rising temperatures and prolonged droughts play in creating conditions ripe for wildfires, and how urban planning and policy changes can mitigate some of these effects. The discussion emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address climate change and implement sustainable practices to protect our communities and ecosystems. Overall, it was a powerful reminder of the challenges we face and the importance of continued research and dialogue in finding solutions. his research on climate and wildfire with a special emphasis on what we can learn from the recent LA fires.

Marin County officials lock in legislative platfor Marin County officials lock in legislative platform for 2025

Brian Colbert, a new member of the Board of Supervisors, expressed some frustration at the shotgun approach of the legislative platform document.

“Everything is in here,” Colbert said. “It’s hard to discern what the county thinks is important. It would have been nice to see what the priorities are. It’s an important signal to the community.”

Colbert made it clear what is at the top of his own list.

“I, like probably almost everyone in California, am certainly interested in disaster emergency and preparedness,” he said. “I think the insurance challenges are only going to be exponential.”
